New Zealand cricketer Chad Bowes has set a new record for the fastest double century in men’s List A cricket on Wednesday. Playing for Canterbury against Otago in the Ford Trophy, Bowes reached his double hundred in just 103 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Travis Head and Narayan Jagadeesan, who both achieved the milestone in 114 balls. Bowes ultimately scored 205 runs off 110 deliveries.

Reflecting on his achievement, Bowes expressed, ‘It might sink in over the next day or two, but obviously a great day at Hagley and a good occasion to do something special. These things happen naturally, organically. You don’t plan for it or try to do it, so I’m glad it was my day.’

Head set the previous record while playing for South Australia against Queensland in the 2021/22 Marsh Cup, while Jagadeesan reached the landmark during his historic innings of 277 for Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022/23 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Bowes made his 100th List A appearance memorable, smashing 27 fours and seven sixes, helping Canterbury post a total of 343/9 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. He reached his fifty in just 26 balls and completed his century in 53 deliveries, needing only 50 more balls to secure the double century. Bowes, who has played six ODIs and 11 T20Is for New Zealand, noted, ‘It started off really nicely, so I just kept going and it was working.’
