Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, held a review meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of ongoing and upcoming National Highway projects in Assam. The meeting took place at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) present.

Gadkari emphasized the need to expedite the completion of 28 projects that are on schedule and to address delays in 11 others under NHIDCL. He specifically instructed officials to prioritize the four-laning of NH 37 from Jorhat to Demow, following a request from CM Sarma. Additionally, he urged the installation of road signs to enhance safety on this key highway.

The discussion also covered various projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road, which is set for contract awarding by the end of November, and the proposed elevated corridor over Kaziranga National Park. Sarma highlighted the need for timely construction of several other projects, including the Gohpur-Numaligarh tunnel and the Majuli Bridge.

Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also called for improved road connectivity with the Dhubri river port. This review is part of a two-day meeting focusing on National Highway projects in the northeastern region, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Assam.
