Mangaluru

The introduction of 10 Ashwamedha Classic buses on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod route is expected by the KSRTC Mangaluru division. This will occur once the state government sanctions the non-AC buses. A reply regarding the feasibility of introducing these buses on the interstate route has been sought from the Mangaluru division by the state government.

These buses will have stops only at major towns, benefiting interstate passengers. The National Highways Authority of India is also working on a new six-lane road project between Mangaluru and Kasaragod. Currently, 40 buses operate on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod route, with the Kerala transport corporation running the same number.

The Senior Divisional Controller of KSRTC stated that a recent letter was received from the head office, directing the examination of introducing Ashwamedha buses on the route. At present, buses on this route have nearly 50 stops along the 55 km stretch. The KSRTC division is exploring the possibility of limiting stops to 12 locations for better service.

A passenger forum that travels between Kasaragod and Mangaluru met with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, requesting improved transport facilities. Following this, the KSRTC division was directed to assess the viability of the Ashwamedha bus service. A reply was sent to the head office stating that service can begin if the government approves 10 Ashwamedha buses and the necessary staff.
