India’s top table tennis players are set to compete in the second UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships, which kicks off in Margao today. Leading the charge in the men’s division is the top-seeded Manav Thakkar, who recently delivered an impressive performance at the Astana Asian Championships. He will be joined by G Sathiyan from PSPB and Manush Shah from RBI. Notably absent from the tournament will be renowned players Achanta Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai.
In the women’s division, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee will look to extend their winning streak following their historic achievements at the Asian Championships, where they secured a women’s doubles medal and contributed to India’s bronze medal in the team events. With top-ranked players Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra missing from the tournament, there will be ample opportunity for rising talents like Diya Chitale to shine. The tournament will also feature competitions across various age categories, including U-19, U-17, U-15, and U-13, making it a significant event for budding players in Indian table tennis.
