Mumbai artist Shailesh Acharekar is set to auction a stunning diamond portrait of the late Ratan N. Tata, created using 12,000 diamonds. Acharekar, who shares a birthday with Tata, originally intended to gift this unique piece to the industrialist on his upcoming birthday, December 28. Sadly, Tata’s passing on October 9 has changed those plans.
Acharekar spent six months meticulously crafting the portrait, which measures 3×4 feet and is set against a matte black background. The artist envisioned this piece as a tribute to Tata’s significant contributions to India. With deep sadness, he announced that the auction’s proceeds would be donated to a charitable cause, particularly for dog welfare, reflecting Tata’s values and Acharekar’s own love for animals.
In a related note, Pune-based artist Rajashri Nitin Bhagawat gained attention for creating a massive 20×20-foot rangoli of Ratan Tata in just three hours. Acharekar believes that while Tata’s diamond portrait will be sold, his legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire generations. The estimated value of the diamond artwork is between ₹3 to ₹5 crore, highlighting the artistic and emotional significance of this tribute.
