Jammu
The BJP welcomed its 29 newly elected MLAs at its party headquarters in Jammu on Monday. This marked the highest number of seats the party has ever achieved in Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly elections. The event was considered a significant milestone for the party.
Ravinder Raina, BJP’s President for Jammu and Kashmir, thanked the people of Jammu for their support. He credited the success to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President J.P. Nadda.
Raina announced that a legislative party meeting would be held soon, with Central observers Prahlad Joshi and Tarun Chugh present. The meeting will decide the next steps for the party in the Union Territory Assembly, including the election of its legislative party leader.
Names like Sunil Kumar Sharma from Padder-Nagseni and Devinder Rana from Nagrota were mentioned as potential candidates for the leadership role. Raina lost in the Nowshera constituency to a National Conference candidate. In the 90-member Assembly, the National Conference holds the most seats with 42, followed by BJP’s 29. The National Conference has already approached the Lieutenant Governor for the formation of the next government.
