India has strongly criticized the Canadian government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling its recent allegations against Indian diplomats preposterous imputations. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Canada has intentionally provided a platform for violent extremists and terrorists to threaten Indian diplomats and community leaders.
In a statement released on Monday, the MEA addressed a diplomatic communication from Canada that labeled Indian diplomats as persons of interest in an investigation. India firmly rejected these claims, attributing them to Trudeau’s political agenda aimed at securing votes.
Despite India’s numerous requests, Canada has failed to provide any evidence supporting its allegations since Trudeau’s initial accusations in September 2023. The MEA highlighted that recent interactions have been marked by baseless assertions, suggesting a deliberate strategy to undermine India for political gain.
Moreover, India pointed out that Hindu temples in Canada have faced vandalism by Khalistani extremists, and Hindu-Canadians have been targeted. The MEA emphasized that deteriorating bilateral relations would ultimately harm Canada.
The statement also criticized Trudeau’s past actions, which have shown hostility toward India. The MEA asserted that Canada’s government has allowed violent extremists to intimidate Indian diplomats, leading to serious concerns about the safety and security of Indian representatives in Canada.
In light of these developments, India reserves the right to respond appropriately to the ongoing situation regarding its diplomats.
