Rising prices of flowers, vegetables ahead of Vijayadashami

Must read

As Vijayadashami approaches, prices for flowers, fruits, and vegetables are climbing significantly, causing concern among consumers. The price of flowers has surged, with Kanakambar selling for Rs 2000 per kg, jasmine at Rs 1000 per kg, and roses priced at Rs 500 per kg. Other flower prices include Sevanti at Rs 450, Sugandaraja at Rs 300, and Annagal flowers at Rs 700. Chendoo flowers are priced at Rs 150, while Kakada costs Rs 800. Round jasmine ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 800, and lotus pairs are available for Rs 70.

Fruit prices are also on the rise, with apples costing Rs 120 to Rs 150 per kg, pomegranates at Rs 250 per kg, and cardamom bananas priced at Rs 120 per kg. Custard apples range from Rs 140 to Rs 180, while grapes are priced between Rs 180 and Rs 200. Pineapples cost Rs 50 to Rs 100 for two, and oranges range from Rs 50 to Rs 90.

Vegetable prices have also increased, with tomatoes now at Rs 80 per kg, up from Rs 15. This rise is attributed to heavy rains affecting supply from regions like Hoskote and Kolar. The wholesale price of tomatoes is between Rs 50 and Rs 60, while retail prices reach Rs 80 to Rs 90. With a 20% shortage in supply, tomatoes are being shipped to other states, further driving up prices.
