The Traffic Department has announced that motorists who give way to ambulances will not face fines. Joint Commissioner M.N. Anucheth stated that if a fine is issued, it can be questioned and will be waived. This decision aims to encourage drivers to prioritize ambulances without fear of penalties.
AI technology is being used to improve traffic management in the city. Recently, AI-based cameras were installed at 60 junctions, and the system is now in place at 165 locations. The technology monitors vehicle flow and adjusts traffic signals based on real-time data, rather than fixed time intervals. This means that signals will change according to the number of vehicles present, improving efficiency during peak hours.
A meeting with private ambulance drivers will be held to clarify which ambulances should be given priority on the roads. The introduction of AI aims to enhance traffic control and ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate the city effectively.
Currently, two-wheelers make up 68% of the traffic in Bangalore. As millions of vehicles operate in the city, the implementation of AI is seen as a necessary step to manage congestion and improve safety for all road users. The AI system is expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce waiting times at signals, benefiting both motorists and emergency services.
