One year on: HSR layout bus service enhances connectivity for residents

Must read

It has been a year since the city launched its first internal bus service in the HSR layout, and residents report positive experiences. The service, which began on August 1, 2023, operates 168 full trips daily with ten buses serving the area. An average of 4,000 residents use the service each day.

The circular route, starting from Agra and covering 18 stations, includes stops at Parangipallya, Mangammanapallya, and McDonald before returning to Agra. Buses run every ten minutes, with a flat ticket price of ₹10. Women can travel for free. BMTC plans to integrate these buses as feeder services for the upcoming Metro Yellow Line, set to launch in January.

Despite operating at a loss, the Directorate of Urban Land Transport will compensate BMTC for the initial 1.5 years. Local groups, such as the HSR Citizen Forum and HSR Cyclist Group, have encouraged residents to use public transport. Residents like Shashirekha, who has lived in the area for 24 years, appreciate the convenience of the bus service for daily errands. Student Krish noted that the service is eco-friendly and connects to major roads, highlighting the helpfulness of the bus staff. Overall, the service has significantly improved accessibility in the HSR layout
