Another canal to be constructed separately

Must read

City experienced a deluge transforming it into what many residents are now calling a lake city due to widespread waterlogging. Significant rainfall inundated various areas, with Kendriya Vihar apartments submerged under the rising water levels. BBMP Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath addressed the media regarding the situation, acknowledging the challenges posed by the heavy rain.

He noted that the city was considering the construction of an additional canal to improve drainage and prevent future waterlogging issues. We are looking into the possibility of building another canal separately to better manage the excess water during heavy rainfall, he stated. The commissioner highlighted that several areas, including Hampi City, Nandini Layout, and Yelahanka, faced severe waterlogging, with reports of water entering homes. This has raised concerns among residents about the impact of such flooding on their properties and livelihoods.

In response to the crisis, Commissioner Giri Nath indicated that the BBMP would consider compensating affected families. If there is a problem for 48 hours due to waterlogging, they should be compensated, he remarked. However, he added that compensation would be assessed based on the number of households affected. Residents are calling for immediate action to address the ongoing waterlogging crisis, which has disrupted daily life and raised concerns about safety.
