The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated a comprehensive survey of street vendors across all its eight zones, aimed at enhancing the welfare and regulation of these vendors under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, and the Karnataka Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood, Regulation of Street Vending and Certification of Vending) Scheme, 2020. The Kalyan Division is implementing necessary measures to expedite the survey process, which has already involved over 600 enumerators.
Using mobile technology, approximately 1,800 street vendors have been identified in various zones so far. Eligible vendors will receive identity cards and certificates based on the survey findings. Additionally, the formation of local Town Vending Committees will facilitate the implementation of the aforementioned regulations.
Street vendors are required to cooperate during the survey and provide essential documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, bank passbooks, ration cards, family member details, and self-declaration certificates. To raise awareness among street vendors regarding their entitlements, street plays will be organized.
In support of street vendors, the central and state governments offer various schemes. Among these, the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme provides microloans to help street vendors achieve self-sufficiency. For further details on beneficiaries and disbursed loans under this scheme, interested parties can visit the PM SVANidhi Dashboard.
