The Karnataka Sheep and Wool Development Corporation Limited is set to implement a scheme to distribute identification certificates to nomadic shepherds during the 2024-25 fiscal year. Eligible nomadic shepherds must own a minimum of 20 sheep or goats to qualify for this benefit.

To apply for the identification certificate, eligible shepherds must obtain an application from the veterinary officers at their local animal treatment facilities or veterinary hospitals. Additionally, they will need to secure a Mahazar certificate from the local village accounting officer related to their nomadic activities. Completed applications, along with the necessary documents, must be submitted to the designated office by October 21.

The assistant director of the corporation has advised interested applicants to contact the veterinary officer at their local animal treatment center or the chief veterinary officer of their respective taluk’s veterinary hospital for more information.

This initiative aims to provide better recognition and support for nomadic shepherds, enabling them to access various benefits and resources to enhance their livelihoods. The distribution of identification certificates is expected to promote the welfare of shepherd communities and ensure their contributions to the livestock sector are acknowledged. The corporation encourages eligible individuals to apply promptly to take advantage of this opportunity. This initiative not only aims to support nomadic shepherds but also seeks to recognize their vital role in Karnataka’s agricultural ecosystem.
