Two officials at a government warehouse in Annigeri have been accused of stealing hundreds of bags of grains and seeds. An investigation by the police revealed that these officials were selling the grains to private traders for profit.
Farmers had stored their Bengal gram and green gram in the warehouse, intending to sell them when prices rose. When they attempted to retrieve their grains, the warehouse manager denied their requests. This led the farmers to report the issue to higher authorities and the police.
Upon inspection by the Regional Manager, it was discovered that 4,141 bags of grains were missing from the warehouse. A complaint was filed at the local police station, resulting in a case being registered.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the warehouse manager and his assistant admitted to selling 1,859 bags of grain, valued at Rs 70 lakh, to traders in nearby towns. They also confessed to taking loans of Rs 37 lakh and Rs 45 lakh from two banks using forged documents. Police have recovered the stolen grains and are continuing their investigation to identify any additional individuals involved in this case.
