Ramesh Katti has resigned from his position as Chairperson of the Belagavi District Central Cooperative (BDCC) Bank amid rising tensions with the bank’s directors. His resignation came after 14 directors did not attend a meeting he called, opting instead to hold a separate gathering where they decided to initiate a no-confidence motion against him.
Katti had served as chairperson for nine years, and his resignation, occurring a year before elections, has raised questions about the reasons behind it. Many directors reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Katti’s leadership, citing unfulfilled demands.
Additionally, a conflict with former MP Annasaheb Jolle is believed to have contributed to the situation. Katti was interested in securing a Lok Sabha ticket from the BJP but withdrew from campaigning after the party chose to nominate Jolle again.
In light of Katti’s resignation, an emergency press conference was held, during which it was announced that a new chairman would be selected soon. A five-member committee will be formed, including various local leaders, to oversee the selection process.
It was stated that Katti resigned voluntarily at the request of senior members, and any claims of rebellion within the board were denied. Under Katti’s leadership, the bank reportedly made a profit of Rs 30 crore last year.
