For the first time, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has awarded multi-year contracts to its leading men’s and women’s players. This significant decision follows a new four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) in January 2024.
A total of 15 senior men’s players have received contracts, with six of them getting multi-year agreements. Among these players are Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales. Notably, Kavem Hodge and Roston Chase have been included in the contracted group. Hodge made his Test debut this year against Australia and played a vital role in West Indies’ first Test victory in Australia in nearly three decades, also scoring his first Test century against England. Chase shone in the T20 World Cup, scoring 241 runs and boasting an impressive average of 60.25.
In the women’s team, multi-year contracts have been awarded to Shemaine Campbelle, Hayley Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor, while all-rounder Ashmini Munisar earned her first contract with the West Indies.
Miles Bascombe, CWI’s Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of open communication with players, highlighting that these contracts reflect mutual confidence and commitment. Congratulations were extended to all contracted players for their outstanding performances.
