Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the title of the number one Test bowler, while young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has risen to third place in the latest ICC Test Rankings released on Wednesday. Bumrah achieved this feat by outperforming his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, who is now just one point behind him with a rating of 870 points. This is Bumrah’s second time at the top, following his impressive performance where he took six wickets in India’s recent seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Kanpur.

In this match, Ashwin also contributed significantly, claiming five wickets. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan improved their rankings, moving up to 18th and 28th, respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, named Player of the Match in the rain-affected Test against Bangladesh, achieved a career-high rating after scoring 72 and 51 runs. This puts him behind only Joe Root and Kane Williamson in the Test batter rankings. Virat Kohli also made a comeback into the top ten, jumping to sixth place after scoring 47 and 29 not out.

Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya also reached a career-high ranking, moving to seventh after an outstanding series against New Zealand. Overall, India’s recent victories have strengthened their position in the World Test Championship standings, placing them in a favorable position for next year’s final.
