The sixth season of the FIH Hockey Pro League is set to begin on November 30, 2023, and run until June 29, 2024. This season promises to be more thrilling as both men’s and women’s winners will secure direct qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands-Belgium, according to an FIH press release.
For the first time in a few seasons, all participating teams will host home matches, allowing fans to connect with their favorite teams. The schedule is divided so that teams will play half their matches in December/February and the other half in June, making it easier for global hockey fans to follow.
Spain’s women’s team, winners of the 2024 FIH Hockey Nations Cup, will re-join the Pro League, replacing the relegated USA. On the men’s side, New Zealand and France have opted out, allowing Ireland to remain for a second season.
The season will kick off with exciting matchups, including a rematch of the Paris 2024 men’s final between the Netherlands and Germany, and a women’s semi-final rematch between China and Belgium.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed excitement for the season, highlighting the importance of direct World Cup qualification, while Argentina’s Agostina Alonso emphasized the value of competition for developing younger players.
