Thailand academic delegation seeks collaboration with IIT Guwahati

A delegation from Thailand recently visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, aiming to establish collaborations that could strengthen India-Thailand relations. Led by Sasirit Tangulrat, Director General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs in Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation included distinguished professors and scholars from over 13 Thai institutions.

During the visit, Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, remarked that this meeting is an important step towards fostering closer academic and research partnerships. He emphasized Assam’s strategic location and the increasing significance of Indo-Thai relations. The delegation was particularly interested in faculty and student exchange programs and joint research initiatives, which could create new growth opportunities for both countries.

The Thai delegation toured IIT Guwahati’s Central Instruments Facility and Supercomputing Facility, describing the experience as eye-opening. Prominent attendees included Saran Vajraphai, Director of Global Human Capital at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and several university professors.

A productive meeting was held between the Thai delegates and IIT Guwahati’s administration, focusing on potential cooperation in academic exchanges, research collaborations, and innovation partnerships. This visit marks a significant milestone in IIT Guwahati’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and fostering global academic collaborations.
