In response to increasing theft cases, residents of Byadagi have started organizing night patrols. The local police department has struggled to catch the criminals behind numerous thefts that occur during the day and night.
Groups of 4 to 6 members have been formed, creating four to five patrol units that use their vehicles to monitor the area. Over the last six months, more than 16 theft cases have been reported, leading to frustration among the residents. In just 15 days, gold and cash worth Rs 1.2 crore were stolen, yet no arrests have been made. This situation has left many residents fearful and reluctant to leave their homes.
Suspicious individuals have been seen at night and captured on several CCTV cameras, but authorities have not apprehended them. Recently, a series of thefts resulted in the loss of 688 grams of gold ornaments, silver items, and cash totaling Rs 44.5 lakh from two homes. Three more burglaries followed soon after.
To enhance security, night patrols have been conducted for the past week. The local police have responded by increasing personnel in Byadagi and forming specialized teams to investigate theft cases. Plans for setting up roadblocks around the town have also been announced to help reduce crime.
