Indian wrestler Sangram Singh made a stunning entrance into the MMA world by winning his first fight at the Gama International Fighting Championship. A Commonwealth Heavyweight wrestling champion, Sangram defeated Pakistani fighter Ali Raza Nasir, who is 17 years his junior, in just one minute and thirty seconds. This victory makes him the first Indian male wrestler to triumph in mixed martial arts.

Competing against fighters from eleven nations, Sangram’s win is the fastest recorded by an Indian in the 93 kg division. His success came from displaying excellent grappling skills and smart strategy, backed by his traditional wrestling experience and commitment to training.

‘I am extremely proud to bring this victory home for India. It’s a step toward a brighter future for MMA in our country. This isn’t just about me; I hope this recognition inspires the Indian government to support mixed martial arts and motivate young people to take up the sport,’ said Singh after his victory.

He emphasized the importance of his coaches, stating, ‘I owe a huge thanks to my Indian coach Bhupesh Kumar for his unwavering support. He has been with me at every turn. I also appreciate my international coach, David, who helped me adapt to MMA and refine my tactics. Their guidance has prepared me for this fight.’
