Air India said on Friday that they’re setting up a Basic Maintenance Training Organisation (BMTO) in Bengaluru to address the growing demand for aircraft maintenance engineers. The institute, expected to be operational by mid-2026, will offer a 2+2-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program, accredited by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Air India has partnered with Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL), a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), to create a purpose-built training facility. The campus, spanning 86,000 square feet, will include modern classrooms and well-equipped labs, providing students with hands-on experience and real-world training. The institute will be located close to Air India’s upcoming 12-bay Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, which is set to open in early 2026.
The goal of the BMTO is to produce skilled professionals capable of meeting the airline’s growing maintenance needs. The training will be tailored to industry standards and Air India’s specific requirements. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree through university partnerships, enhancing their academic and career prospects.
