Hoteliers’ Association urges fuel price cuts amid falling crude oil rates

Must read

The Bruhat Bengaluru Hoteliers’ Association has urged the Central government to lower fuel prices, referencing a significant drop in international crude oil rates. In a letter to officials, the association noted that crude oil is currently priced at $74.72 per barrel, roughly translating to Rs 39 per litre. However, petrol and diesel prices in India have not seen a corresponding decrease.

The association pointed out that citizens are facing over 50% in taxes from both central and state governments. In Bengaluru, petrol costs Rs 102.86 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 88.94 per litre, placing a considerable financial strain on businesses and the public. The letter emphasized that high fuel costs directly impact transportation expenses, which then raise prices of essential goods like milk and vegetables. This situation could further harm the struggling tourism industry.

The association has requested that fuel prices be lowered and that petrol and diesel be included under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to ease the burden on consumers and businesses. Hotel industry representatives stated that reducing fuel prices is essential for economic stability and would help sustain profitability in various sectors, particularly tourism and hospitality.
