Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start his three-day visit to the United States today. His agenda includes high-level meetings with global leaders, attending the annual Quad summit, and participating in discussions at the United Nations.
The first event on his schedule is the Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he will meet with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. This sixth summit aims to enhance cooperation for a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region and is especially significant as India will host the next summit.
The Quad partners are focusing on several key issues, including climate change, clean energy initiatives, and cybersecurity. They are working on projects related to sustainable infrastructure and health security, expanding their previous vaccine partnership into a broader Health Security Partnership.
Additionally, Modi will engage in a bilateral meeting with Biden to discuss defense cooperation and trade, which reached $190.1 billion in 2023. The Prime Minister will also address the Indian diaspora at a community event in Long Island, New York, highlighting the importance of the Indian American community in strengthening US-India ties.
Finally, Modi will attend the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future,’ which aims to tackle pressing global issues, including health and climate change, and will feature the adoption of a significant outcome document, the Pact for the Future.
