Pakistan Customs authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle 15,465 mobile phones, mainly Android devices, valued at PKR 446 million from China into Pakistan via the Khunjerab Pass. The mobile phones and other items were confiscated, and a smuggling case was initiated.

A report submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) indicated that Customs officials at Sost Dry Port received information about a truck carrying smuggled goods, including mobile phones. The truck, identified as GLTE 1257, had entered Pakistan from China through Khunjerab Pass and was parked near Dehi on the Karakoram Highway.

A Customs team was dispatched to investigate the vehicle. Upon arrival, they found the truck abandoned, with no driver present. Local residents informed officials that an unidentified person had left the truck, claiming it had a mechanical issue.

The Customs team transported the truck to Sost Dry Port for security. As no one came forward to claim the vehicle, a public notice was issued, allowing the importer 15 days to present the required documents. After receiving no response, Customs officials conducted an inspection of the truck. A total of 15,465 mobile phones, including 8,365 smartphones and 7,100 bar phones, were discovered. Additional non-duty paid goods were also found.  Legal proceedings are underway due to the failure of the importer to claim the goods.
