Following the Aam Aadmi Party’s announcement that Atishi will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi, Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal voiced strong opposition. Maliwal described the decision as a troubling day for Delhi and referred to Atishi as a ‘dummy CM’.

On social media, Maliwal criticized Atishi, stating that her family had previously supported terrorist Afzal Guru, who was convicted for the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. She claimed that Atishi’s parents had petitioned the President to spare Guru, arguing that he was framed. Maliwal expressed concern that, despite Atishi being a ‘dummy CM’, the issue affects national security and prayed for Delhi’s safety.

The announcement of Atishi’s new role came after a unanimous decision by the AAP legislature party, as confirmed by Minister Gopal Rai. Rai stated that Atishi will serve as Chief Minister until the next Assembly elections. Outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to resign from his position, making way for Atishi to assume office.

Atishi, who has previously managed key portfolios like Education and Public Works, is known for her work in improving Delhi’s school education system. Her appointment follows the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was arrested in connection with a liquor scam case.
