In Bihar’s Bhojpur district, over a dozen houses have been submerged as the Ganga River continues to rise above the danger level. The worst-hit areas are Shahpur and Barahra blocks, including villages like Neknam Tola, Sinha, and Poraha in Barahra, and Jawainiya and Maqsoodpur in Shahpur.
In Jawainiya village, the house of Binod Yadav and a local temple were completely submerged overnight. Neknam Tola in Barahra has seen floodwaters enter more than 20 homes. Residents are struggling as the river’s rising water level creates severe shortages of essential supplies such as food and clean drinking water. Vijay Sharma from Poraha village described the situation as worsening, with critical shortages over the past three days.
The Water Resource Department reports that the Ganga River is flowing 48 cm above the danger mark, with levels at Gandhi Ghat in Patna reaching 49.08 meters, and 12 cm above the danger mark at Hathidah block at 41.88 meters. Erosion is a major concern, threatening the stability of homes and land, causing panic among those living along the riverbanks.
Rajeshwar Yadav from Neknam Tola voiced his anxiety, saying his family is unable to sleep due to fears of rising water. The district administration is responding by placing sandbags to mitigate soil erosion, but residents remain fearful as the river’s level shows no sign of receding.
