District in-charge minister Sharanbasappa Darshanapura hoisted the national flag at the district stadium on Tuesday as part of the Kalyana Karnataka Utsav. Following the flag hoisting, the minister received salutes from various contingents.

In his speech, the minister explained that the Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation Day is commemorated to mark the day when the Hyderabad province joined independent India, and it is now celebrated as Kalyana Karnataka Utsav. He noted that although India gained independence on August 15, 1947, the Hyderabad province initially resisted merger with the Indian Union. Operation Polo was conducted to defeat the Nizam’s army, leading to the province’s integration.

The minister announced plans to install a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Yadgiri. He highlighted that during the Nizam’s rule, the region was underdeveloped, but the special status now allows it to compete with other areas of the state. He also mentioned the implementation of five development guarantees for the region.

Additionally, he reflected on the progressive policies of the Maharaja of Mysore, particularly in irrigation, and emphasized the importance of historical knowledge. A cleanliness service initiative was launched, and a cultural program featuring school children was held.

The event was attended by Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, UDA President Vinayak Malipatila, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sushila, Zilla Panchayat Executive Officer Lavish Ordia, Forest Protection Officer Kajol Patila, District Superintendent of Police G. Sangeet, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sharanbasappa Kotappagola, Assistant Commissioner Hampanna Sajjan, and other district and taluk officials, as well as organizational representatives and students.
