The sixth edition of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) is set to take place in Mumbai this December, featuring former World No. 1 doubles player Rohan Bopanna, currently ranked No. 6 in men’s doubles. This will be Bopanna’s debut in the league, which aims to bring a fresh approach to tennis in India. The 44-year-old Bengaluru native has an impressive resume, including two Grand Slam titles—the Australian Open in 2024 (Men’s Doubles) and the French Open in 2017 (Mixed Doubles). He also holds the record as the oldest player to achieve the World No. 1 ranking, a milestone he reached earlier this year.

Bopanna joins a prestigious group of Indian tennis legends, including Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza, all Grand Slam winners who support the league. In TPL, each matchup between franchises will feature Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Doubles, with 100 points up for grabs per encounter, totaling 500 points across five matches in the league stage. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.

Bopanna will compete alongside Sumit Nagal, France’s Hugo Gaston, and Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan at the historic Cricket Club of India. Excited about his TPL debut, Bopanna praised the league’s innovative format and its role in fostering grassroots talent, hoping it will inspire the next generation of players.
