Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has lauded Adam Zampa as the leg-spinner approaches his 100th One Day International (ODI) match against England. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Marsh praised Zampa’s remarkable journey and his growth into one of Australia’s top ODI players.
Reaching 100 ODIs is a notable milestone, Marsh said. Zamps’ career has seen its share of highs and lows, but his performance over the past four or five years has been exceptional.
Marsh highlighted Zampa’s development both personally and professionally. The cricketer and person he has become is something we greatly appreciate. He’s on track to be one of our all-time ODI greats, Marsh added.
Marsh also noted Zampa’s key role in the team. He’s one of our main bowlers in the 50-over format. He thrives in high-pressure situations, which is a hallmark of great players, he remarked.
Zampa, who has claimed 169 wickets in 99 ODIs, has a best performance of 5/35 against New Zealand. He also has 111 wickets in 92 T20Is and is highly ranked among T20I bowlers.
Zampa expressed his eagerness to continue playing ODIs despite the evolving cricket landscape. Playing for Australia remains a top goal for young cricketers. Franchise cricket offers new opportunities, but representing Australia is always the pinnacle, Zampa said.
