Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 56 helped India reach 176/6 against B’desh

In the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, Mumbai’s 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal played a resilient innings, scoring 56 off 118 balls. By the end of the second session on Thursday, India was at 176/6 after 48 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja (7) and Ravichandran Ashwin (21) at the crease.

The second session began with India at 88/3, with Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant batting. Pant contributed 39 before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud, who took four wickets. KL Rahul added 16 before falling to Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Jaiswal, who struck nine boundaries, was out at 144.

After Jaiswal’s departure, Ashwin and Jadeja built a 32-run partnership. Alongside Mahmud’s impressive spell, Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each claimed a wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose to bowl at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, where overcast conditions favored seamers. Hasan Mahmud excelled in the first session, taking all three wickets and challenging Indian batsmen with his skillful bowling. At the end of the first session, India was 88/3, with Jaiswal and Pant having stabilized the innings after early setbacks.
