Jaipur

The bond between Anita Janu and her daughter Nupur Janu is both unbreakable and inspiring. What started as a fitness routine has turned them into marathon champions, showcasing the strength of their shared passion and family love.

Anita, a dynamic 50-year-old, began her running journey in 2015. Her first race in Jaipur sparked a lasting passion for running. I started to lose weight, but soon I saw how much joy running brought to people, and I knew this was the lifestyle I wanted, Anita said, eagerly preparing for her eighth consecutive Delhi Half Marathon.

The Delhi Half Marathon is particularly meaningful for the Janus. Nupur, 27, shared, my most memorable run was the 2023 Delhi Half Marathon with my parents and sister. We make it a point to run this marathon every year.

Anita’s dedication inspired Nupur, a senior consultant, to pursue her own running goals. Nupur has achieved 18 half marathons, 9 full marathons, and even the grueling Ironman Kalmar in Sweden. My mother was my inspiration, Nupur said. I first ran in Jaipur by accident and have never looked back.

Their journey includes milestones such as completing 23 half marathons and 13 full marathons, and in 2022, becoming the only mother-daughter duo to finish the Comrades Ultramarathon in South Africa.

The Janus have learned valuable life lessons through running. Anita advised young people, Staying active improves both mental and physical health. My daughters’ achievements prove the power of perseverance and fitness.
