New Delhi
On Wednesday, the Sikh Prakoshth of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence, criticizing his remarks about the Sikh community made during his US visit. BJP leader RP demanded an apology from Gandhi, accusing him of defaming India abroad. RP claimed Gandhi’s statements that Sikhs are banned from wearing turbans, kadas, or visiting Gurdwaras are false and insulting. He also mentioned past Sikh violence in Delhi. Vineet Jindal, a Supreme Court lawyer, had earlier filed complaints with Home Minister Amit Shah, NIA Director General, and Delhi Police Commissioner. Jindal argued that Gandhi’s statements were misleading and inciting. He noted that no incidents have occurred where Sikhs were prevented from practicing their religion and accused Gandhi of defaming India for political purposes. Jindal requested action, including the possible revocation of Gandhi’s passport.
