The 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024 kicked off with excitement at Mangaluru’s International Aquatic Complex. On the first day, 10 events were held, including a standout performance by Hashika Ramachandra of Karnataka, who broke a 13-year-old national record in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with a time of 4,24.70, surpassing the previous record of 4,25.76 set by Richa Mishra. Telangana’s Vritti Agarwal finished second with a time of 4,25.09.
In the Men’s 400m Freestyle, Karnataka’s Aneesh S Gowda won with a time of 3,56.59, while his teammate Dharshan S came in second at 4,01.39. Tamil Nadu’s Dhanush Suresh took first place in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2,18.85, followed by Karnataka’s Manikanta L at 2,20.66. Karnataka’s Thanya Shadakshari won the Women’s 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2,40.54, and Maharashtra’s Jyoti Bajirao Pati was second at 2,42.01.
Karnataka’s Akash Mani led the Men’s 100m Backstroke with a time of 56.15, while Bengal’s Soubrity Mondal topped the Women’s 100m Backstroke at 1,05.51. In the Butterfly events, Tamil Nadu’s B Benedicton Rohit and Bihar’s Mahi Swetraj won the Men’s and Women’s 50m Butterfly races, respectively. Karnataka’s relay teams excelled, with both the Men’s and Women’s 4x200m Freestyle relays taking first place.
