Must read

The Government Dental College and Research Institute (GDCRI) in Bengaluru will open a new digital dentistry centre today. This centre, supported by the Adani Foundation, is the first of its kind in a government hospital in Karnataka and potentially in South India. The inauguration will be attended by Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department Mohammed Mohsin, Institute Dean Dr. Girish B. Giraddi, and Head of the Prosthodontics Department Dr. Prema.

Dr. Anoop N, Associate Professor at GDCRI, explained the benefits of the new facility. The introduction of digital technology, including intra-oral scanners, 3D printers, and CAD/CAM systems, will streamline dental processes, making them more precise and efficient compared to conventional methods. The new tools will enable 3D printing of dentures, surgical guides, and mock surgical models, significantly enhancing the educational experience for students.

Dr. Anoop also mentioned the potential future impact, noting that the centre could support rural areas by processing prosthetics from scanned images sent by dentists. The centre aligns with the government’s technology adoption efforts and aims to advance dental education and patient care. Established in 1958, GDCRI continues to focus on improving its services with this state-of-the-art facility.
