100 new BS6 BMTC buses to hit roads starting today

Must read

Starting today, the city will see the introduction of 100 new BS6 BMTC buses as part of the first phase of a significant expansion in the city’s public transport fleet. The state government has committed to purchasing a total of 840 new buses at a cost of Rs 336 crore, with these initial buses arriving to enhance service across high-traffic areas.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the new buses with a ceremonial drive in front of Vidhana Soudha. These eco-friendly buses, manufactured by Ashok Leyland, are designed to be more efficient than their BS4 predecessors and are equipped with advanced safety features, including an early warning system for fire accidents.

The new buses will primarily operate on routes connecting key locations such as Majestic, KR Market, Yeshvantpur, Rajajinagar, Mysore Road, and KR Pura to various outer parts and significant places in the city. This move aims to address the increased demand for public transport, particularly during peak hours and in response to higher passenger volumes following the implementation of the Shakti Yojana.

In addition, BMTC has introduced a new non-air-conditioned route (253C) between Yesvantpur and Kanasawadi. Buses will run four times daily, with departures from Yesvantpur at 8:30 AM and 12:05 PM, and from Kanasawadi at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM.
