Sao Paolo
Netherlands forward Memphis Depay has signed a two-year deal with Brazil’s Corinthians, running through December 2026, after leaving Atletico Madrid as a free agent in July. Depay, 30, featured in 31 games for Atletico last season, netting nine goals. He also represented the Netherlands at Euro 2024 but was left out of the squad by Coach Ronald Koeman for September’s Nations League matches.
Koeman clarified that Depay’s move to Brazil won’t necessarily end his international career, unlike teammate Steven Bergwijn’s controversial transfer to the Saudi Pro League. Koeman stated, I was critical of Steven Bergwijn’s move to Saudi, but Memphis’ situation is different. The Brazilian league has a different level, so Memphis can still be part of the national team, provided he stays fit and maintains his form.
Depay began his career at PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and has since played for Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona, and Atletico. He has made 98 appearances and scored 46 goals for the Netherlands since his debut in 2013.
