The Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene have petitioned the GESCOM Executive Engineer in Hosapet to oppose the government’s plan to privatize agricultural electrification and implement charges based on Aadhaar number linkage for irrigation pump sets.

In their petition, the farmers’ organizations have called for several key measures. They seek the provision of transportation for transformers, electric poles, wires, and other materials related to the Ganga Kalyan project. Additionally, they have requested a reduction in the unit rate for household electricity usage beyond 200 units and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for families affected by electrical accidents.

The farmers also demand continuous electricity supply for irrigation pump sets for seven to eight hours and similar electricity services in rural areas as found in cities. They have called for the replacement of old electricity wires, installed 50 to 60 years ago, with higher quality wires and the replacement of burnt transformers within 24 hours. Furthermore, they want the revival of the scheme providing free RR numbers, transformers, and electric poles for regularizing unauthorized connections.

The delegation that submitted the petition included prominent farmer leaders such as T Nagaraj, M Jadeppa, Sunankki Rudrappa, Jayaruddin, Zakir, Murthy, H Satish, A Ramanjini, V Galeppa, Suresh, K Ramanjini, L Nagesh, and Maharaj Durugappa.
