The High Court has dismissed the criminal case against Siddhasiri Sahakari Souharda Regular Sugar Factory in Chincholi, Kalaburagi district, owned by BJP MLA Basanagowda Patil Yatnal. The case alleged that the factory was discharging waste water into the Mullamari river.
Justice M Nagaprasanna presided over the hearing of the petition filed to cancel the case against the factory’s President Basanagowda Patil Yatnal, Director Ramanagowda Yatnal, and General Manager Shivakumar Patil. All legal proceedings in the JMFC Court at Chincholi have been quashed.
The original complaint, filed by Deputy Environmental Officer Dr. Adam Saab M. Patel of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s Kalaburagi Zone, accused the factory of environmental violations. These included discharging waste into the Mullamari river, operating an ethanol plant without following environmental regulations, and improper waste disposal, which allegedly caused water pollution. The case was considered a symbolic crime by the Chincholi JMFC Court, prompting Yatnal to challenge it in the High Court.
