With only three days left for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a warning to organizers through a letter to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The FSSAI has mandated that only licensed individuals or establishments are allowed to prepare and distribute ‘prasadam’ to ensure food safety, cleanliness, and quality at public Ganesh festivals and pandals.
Organizers distributing prasadam during the festival must possess a cleanliness and quality safety certificate, as well as necessary permissions from the BBMP. FSSAI has instructed festival organizers to verify that they have the appropriate licenses for food distribution during Ganesh Utsav.
For public safety, the authorities have warned that immediate action will be taken against those distributing food without proper FSSAI permission. The city police have also emphasized that permission from local police stations is required for the installation of Ganesha idols, and warned of legal consequences for those who violate these rules or accept offerings without authorization.
