City police issue guidelines for festivals

City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has called on residents to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and Eid Milad peacefully, following all issued guidelines. Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed from September 6 to 17, with idols placed at 165 locations within the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate limits. Eid Milad will be celebrated on September 15 and 16.

Processions will take place in 22 hypersensitive, 64 sensitive, and 79 normal areas. Organizers must secure permissions from MESCOM, fire and emergency services, local bodies, and landowners where idols are installed. Pandals should be erected with safety measures against wind, rain, and fire, and fire-fighting equipment must be available. Inflammable materials should be kept away from lamps in the Ganesh mantapa.

Organizers must also provide details of main guests and their contact information to local police. Permissions are needed for flexes and banners, which should not contain provocative content. Tableaux and dance performances must respect all religious sentiments. Firecrackers are banned near hospitals and crowded areas after 10 pm. Permission is required for idol immersion processions, and organizers should avoid provocative slogans. Vehicles used in tableaux must have valid fitness certificates and insurance. Volunteers should wear matching uniforms, and no vehicles should be parked along procession routes. Permission for sound systems must adhere to time limits. Ganesha idols will be installed at 221 locations in the district.
