Union Minister of State for MSME, Labour, and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, has urged that major industries and public enterprises prioritize Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for procuring spare parts imported from abroad. A formal request has been made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support this initiative.
At the opening of the two-day Micro, Small and Medium Industries Conference – 2024, organized by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of MSME at City Palace Ground, Karandlaje highlighted the significant role of MSMEs in the industrial sector and their contribution to employment generation.
The central government has introduced various schemes to support MSMEs, with substantial focus given in the current budget. Karandlaje emphasized that MSMEs are crucial for achieving Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India.
She also noted the need for enhanced upskilling of the workforce in the MSME sector. Measures are being implemented to boost their contribution to the nation’s GDP. Each year, around 5 lakh applications are received for subsidies to start new industries, but only 90 thousand applications can be accommodated due to limited funding. To address this, a request for increased financial support has been submitted to the Finance Minister.
