The CCB Special Investigation Squad has arrested 48 individuals involved in a scam related to the recruitment for the Second Grade Assistant posts in the Water Resources Department. Among those arrested, 37 were candidates who submitted fake documents to secure these positions. The remaining 11 arrested individuals were identified as middlemen facilitating the fraud.
Three of the arrested individuals are current government employees: Anand, who was serving as the Principal of Morarji Desai School in Kalaburgi; Krishna, employed as an FDA at the KPTCL office in Jog Falls; and Pradeep, working as an FDI in the Water Resources Department in Hassan.
The CCB Police reported the seizure of 17 mobile phones, two cars valued at Rs. 40 lakhs, and one computer hard disk from the accused.
The Water Resources Department had advertised 182 backlog posts for Second Grade Assistants through direct recruitment in October 2022. A complaint was filed with the Seshadripuram police station after the department discovered that the documents submitted by 62 candidates were fake. The case was subsequently transferred to the CCB.
The investigation, led by CCB Inspector Srinivas, resulted in the arrest of 37 candidates from 12 districts, who had used false documents to apply for the positions. Additionally, 11 middlemen involved in the scam were apprehended. The arrested candidates, mostly middle class and with poor academic records, had paid large sums of money to obtain fake mark sheets with inflated scores in their attempts to secure government jobs illegally.
