Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated on Thursday that there should be no lapses at the Ballari prison where actor Darshan was transferred from Bengaluru jail after luxury treatment photos surfaced on social media. Darshan, who faces charges in a kidnap and murder case, was moved to Ballari jail on Thursday. Following revelations of his luxuries at Bengaluru Central Jail, several staff members were suspended, and three FIRs were filed.
When asked about strict measures at Ballari jail, Parameshwara mentioned that prison authorities are responsible for managing the situation. He added that the government would issue general instructions but not interfere in the details of jail management. The Home Minister expressed hope that there would be no issues at the Ballari jail.
Parameshwara also noted that he was unaware of the decision to transfer Darshan. The authorities decided to move Darshan and others as part of routine jail management and security considerations. The shifting was approved by a Bengaluru court following a photograph showing Darshan with inmates at the Bengaluru jail.
The Minister denied any connection between the transfer and Housing Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmad Khan’s proximity to Darshan. He assured that actions would be based on legal procedures, regardless of political connections.
Darshan’s partner, Pavithra Gowda, will remain in Bengaluru Central Prison. Other associates of Darshan are being transferred to various jails across Karnataka, including Mysuru, Shivamogga, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi.
