Women and Child Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar has indirectly criticized MLA Abhay Patil, suggesting a hidden agenda behind a recent decision by the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC). During an emergency meeting, the BCC decided to deposit Rs 20 crore into the assistant commissioner’s account to avoid contempt of court proceedings from the Dharwad bench of the high court.

The BCC had previously approved Belagavi Smart City Limited (BSCL) to construct a 560-meter road in Shahapur without properly acquiring private land. This has led to contempt of court proceedings due to delays in compensation payments and failure to adhere to court orders.

Hebbalkar claimed that a serious error was made by both officials and local representatives. The hidden agenda is causing suffering for the people of Belagavi. We could make Belagavi an ideal place if politicians worked without such agendas, she said.

In response to allegations that the government is obstructing the sugar factory project of Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal through the pollution control board, Hebbalkar stated that decisions are made according to the law. She emphasized that the Congress government does not practice vindictive politics and affirmed that neither she, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, nor Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar engage in such tactics.

Hebbalkar also announced that, as per Congress party decisions, all party MLAs and leaders will participate in a Raj Bhavan Chalo rally on August 31.
