A special committee led by the Deputy Commissioner will investigate issues related to roadwork in Shahapur by the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC). District Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced the probe, focusing on the failure to follow the land acquisition process.
The ruling BJP in BCC decided in a general body meeting to deposit Rs 20 crore as compensation for land used in the roadworks. However, this decision has been rejected by the Congress party.
Jarkiholi stated that the error was made by officials. The work was managed by Belagavi Smart City Limited (BSCL), and it was BSCL’s responsibility to handle the compensation. Instead, BCC Commissioner KH Jagadish unilaterally decided to pay the compensation and issued a no-objection certificate to BSCL for the road construction.
Former BCC Commissioner Jagadish made the decision under political pressure during his term. Jarkiholi noted that Jagadish acted without informing the Deputy Commissioner, who was the administrator at the time.
The Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Roshan, has been instructed to form a committee to investigate the issue. Jarkiholi also mentioned that there are other legal issues within BCC that need to be addressed. Additionally, a separate committee will be set up to address the 40 percent pending revenue collection from BCC’s sources.
