Jacob Oram has been named the new bowling coach for the New Zealand national cricket team, starting October 7. He succeeds Shane Jurgensen, who stepped down at the end of last year. Oram’s first major assignment will be managing New Zealand’s three-Test series against India.
Oram, a former all-rounder with over 200 international appearances, has extensive experience in cricket, including participation in three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups and four ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. He has previously served as a bowling coach for the Black Caps during the recent T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, and he also worked with the New Zealand women’s team until the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in early 2022.
In his new role, Oram aims to support New Zealand in upcoming fixtures, including the Test series against India and a home series against England. He also plans to help the team qualify for the 2025 World Test Championship final and perform well at the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year.
Oram expressed excitement about his return to the Black Caps, stating he is honored to be part of a team significant to him and looking forward to contributing to its success and guiding emerging bowling talent.
