Villages along the Krishna River and its tributaries, Vedaganga and Doodhaganga, are under threat of flooding for the second time in three weeks. Areas including Chikodi, Nippani, Raibag, Kagawad, and Athani taluks are particularly at risk due to ongoing heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, the Western Ghats, and river catchment areas.

The Kudachi-Ugar Khurd bridge, a key link between Karnataka and Maharashtra, was submerged on Tuesday night. The police have closed the old bridge to traffic, setting up barricades on both sides. Additionally, the Akkol-Sidnal and Jatrat-Bhivashi bridges over Vedaganga, as well as the Karadaga-Bhoj, Bhoj-Kunnur, Bhojwadi-Kunnur, and Malikwad-Dattawad bridges over Doodhaganga, have been submerged for the past two days. The district administration is on high alert.

The Navilutirtha reservoir on the Malaprabha River is full and receiving heavy inflows due to continued rainfall. To manage the water level, authorities have started releasing 10,000 to 15,000 cusecs of water from the reservoir. The district administration has warned residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant.

Following the release of water, the old bridge in Ramdurg town has been submerged under 5 feet of water, disrupting vehicle movement and affecting the nearby Janakiram Temple.
