Monkeypox concerns have risen in the state, prompting the health department to issue a circular for strict precautions at airports. Indira Nagar Hospital in Bangalore and Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore have been designated for treating suspected monkeypox cases. If monkeypox is detected, a 21-day quarantine is required.
State Health Commissioner D. Randeep has directed officials to monitor suspected cases closely. Managing officers at airports, ports, and entry points across the state have been instructed to remain vigilant. Screening of suspects and monitoring of international travelers, particularly from high-risk countries, are to be conducted.
The health staff has been directed to isolate and treat any suspected cases found in the state. Following the World Health Organization’s declaration of monkeypox as a ‘global health emergency’ and the rise in cases in countries such as Sweden and Pakistan, heightened caution has been advised.
The Center has instructed all states to prepare for potential monkeypox cases. Currently, there are no active monkeypox cases in India. Clinical samples from suspected cases are sent to the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute for testing. If monkeypox is confirmed, patients are isolated for a minimum of 21 days or until fully recovered.
The Karnataka Health Department remains vigilant in response to the global monkeypox situation, ensuring readiness and precautionary measures are in place to manage and contain any possible outbreaks.
