Tumakuru

An outbreak of vomiting dysentery has struck Bullasandra village in Madhugiri taluk, resulting in three deaths and widespread illness among residents. The deceased are identified as Katamma, Thimmakka, and Giriamma. Their deaths, occurring on the same day, have raised alarms among the villagers.

The illness seems to have originated from food prepared for a local fair. The food, cooked at home and served to attendees, has led to 18 women and 12 men falling ill. A temporary treatment center has been established at the village’s government school to address the outbreak.

Health and Family Welfare Department officials reported that the deceased had no pre-existing conditions other than age-related diseases. District Health Officer Manjunath noted that symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea first appeared in three or four people on the evening of the 24th. By the 25th, eight cases had been recorded, with one patient in critical condition who was transferred to Madhugiri Government Hospital. A 40-year-old woman from Madakashira died from dehydration and low blood pressure, while two others, aged 80 and 78, died from age-related issues.

A total of 27 cases of vomiting and diarrhea have been identified in the village. Medical staff are providing 24-hour care at the temporary center, with one patient in serious condition being treated at a private hospital in Tumakuru. Two individuals remain in the ICU and are reportedly improving.
